LOTO before any power stage or fan work inside the cabinet. Allow the unit to cool before opening covers near the heatsink.
How it presents
Symptom
Autel MaxiCharger DC power stage overtemp shows up as a progressive derate during sustained high-power sessions, escalating to a full Faulted stop if airflow or ambient conditions don't improve. This is most common in summer at sites with blocked intake filters, undersized clearance around the cabinet, or back-to-back long sessions with little cooldown between them.
Root causes (by observed frequency)
- #1 Blocked intake filters or a failed cooling fan restricting airflow to the power stage
Cheapest and most common cause — always clean/inspect airflow hardware first.
- #2 High ambient temperature combined with continuous high-kW sessions exceeding the OEM thermal derate curve
Compare session log against ambient weather data before assuming a hardware fault.
- #3 Temperature sensor fault giving a false-high reading
Cross-check with an external IR reading at the same location before condemning the power stage.
- #4 Power stage itself running hot due to component degradation
Only pursue after airflow and sensor accuracy are both confirmed good.
Diagnostic procedure
1. Inspect and clean intake filters, and confirm cooling fans spin freely and reach full speed.
Expected: Filters clear of debris; fans reach commanded RPM with no noise

2. Take an IR reading at the power stage heatsink/exhaust during a controlled load test and compare to the internal sensor reading.
Expected: IR reading tracks within a few degrees of the reported sensor value

3. Pull the session log and correlate the derate/fault timestamp against recorded ambient temperature.
Expected: Fault correlates with high ambient plus sustained high-kW draw
