Safety
OEM emergency release only — never pry on NACS pins or the latch body. LOTO before opening the connector housing.
How it presents
Symptom
Autel MaxiCharger DC's NACS port latch fails to lock or won't release, either preventing a session from starting because the vehicle never confirms a locked connector, or trapping the cable in the vehicle inlet after the session ends. Drivers often report a buzzing sound or visible resistance when inserting the NACS handle.
Root causes (by observed frequency)
- #1 Mechanical debris, ice, or road grit binding the NACS latch mechanism
NACS latch pockets are smaller than CCS and clog more easily with grit — clean first.
- #2 Failed lock motor or worn actuator gear specific to the NACS assembly
A buzzing motor that never completes travel indicates a motor or gear failure, not a control issue.
- #3 Control signal not reaching the NACS actuator due to a harness or connector fault
Verify actuator voltage before replacing the motor.
- #4 End-of-travel switch on the NACS latch failed or misadjusted
Can look identical to a motor failure from the HMI — always test the switch separately.
Diagnostic procedure
1. If a cable is trapped, run Autel's OEM emergency release procedure for the NACS port before any other work.
Expected: Cable releases cleanly without forcing the latch
Tools: Autel OEM release tool/procedure
2. Inspect the NACS latch pocket for debris, ice, or corrosion and clean thoroughly.
Expected: Latch pocket clear; actuator arm moves freely by hand
Tools: flashlight, brush
3. Cycle the lock/unlock command from the service menu and observe/listen to the actuator.
Expected: Actuator completes full travel with a clean end-of-travel click
Tools: Autel service menu
4. Measure control voltage at the NACS actuator connector during a commanded cycle.
Expected: Voltage present at spec when lock/unlock is commanded
Tools: DMM
5. Test end-of-travel switch continuity in locked and unlocked positions.
Expected: Clean state change at each end of travel, no chatter
Tools: DMM continuity test
The fix
Clean and prove the NACS latch mechanically and electrically before replacing the actuator.
NACS latch/lock actuator kit
Autel OEM kit; NACS and CCS latch kits are not interchangeable
- Use only Autel's approved emergency release procedure to free a trapped cable, since prying on the NACS latch risks damaging both the station connector and the vehicle inlet.
- Clean debris, ice, or corrosion from the latch pocket and confirm the actuator arm moves freely by hand before re-testing electrically.
- Verify control voltage reaches the actuator during a commanded cycle, repairing the harness rather than the motor if voltage is missing.
- Replace the NACS latch and end-of-travel switch as a matched OEM kit if the mechanism is electrically live but mechanically failed, then validate at least three consecutive lock/unlock cycles and one full charge session before closing the ticket.
