Safety
Never bypass GFCI/RCD to ‘keep the stall up.’ Treat repeated trips as a live fault until dry path + PE are proven.
How it presents
Symptom
Wallbox Pulsar trips GFCI/RCD during rain, wash-down, or cable handling. App/HMI shows ground-fault or protection trip; breaker may also open. Session will not restart until the protective device is reset and the moisture/insulation cause is cleared—not just the reset button mashed.
Root causes (by observed frequency)
- #1 Moisture bridging GFCI sensing at cable gland, connector, or outdoor enclosure seam
Most common after storms or pressure washing
- #2 Damaged EV cable insulation or contaminated connector pins
Inspect the full cable run, not just the connector end
- #3 Site PE / bonding high resistance causing nuisance trips under load
See protocol GND-01 before condemning the Wallbox board
- #4 Failed GFCI module after repeated wet trips
Replace only after a dry, known-good-cable retest still trips
Diagnostic procedure
1. Photograph HMI/app fault, note outdoor exposure, and whether trip happens at plug-in or mid-session
Expected: Exact fault string + weather context

2. LOTO feeder; dry cable, connector, and enclosure seams; inspect boots and glands
Expected: No standing water; seals intact
Tools: rags, inspection light
3. Verify PE continuity at dispenser and panel bond before reset
Expected: Low-ohm PE path per local code practice
Tools: DMM / continuity
4. Reset GFCI once; retry with known-good cable/vehicle if available
Expected: Holds through authorize and ≥5 min charge
Tools: known-good J1772 if on hand
5. If still trips dry with known-good path, replace GFCI module per OEM—do not defeat protection

The fix
Dry and seal the path, prove PE, then replace GFCI only if trips persist dry.

Replace if jacket or pins compromised
- Lock out and tag out the branch circuit and verify zero energy before opening the enclosure.
- Dry the enclosure, glands, and connector thoroughly, and replace any damaged cable boots found during inspection.
- Confirm PE continuity and correct site bonding with a qualified electrician if it reads open or high-resistance.
- Perform a single protective reset and validate the fix with a real session lasting at least five minutes.
- If the trip recurs dry with a known-good path, replace the GFCI module, retest, and capture a scrubbed photo confirming the resolved status.
